Description

This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL retains its numbers-matching 2. 8-liter fuel-injected inline-six and was sold new by Star Motors in Evergreen Park, Illinois. It was stored for a number of years prior to this and has been driven about 8,500 miles since. Receipts for parts from the Mercedes Benz Classic Center show a new fuel pump, oil cooler, driveshaft flex disk, shifter bushings, and rear muffler, as well as motor, transmission, sub-frame, and center differential mounts. July 2017 work included an oil change, lubrication, new spark plugs, and a full inspection. A repaint in original Anthracite Grey (173G) was completed around 1989, with front fenders and the driver-side headlight bucket thought to have been replaced at the same time. Exterior flaws shown in gallery photos include a small ding/paint bubble to the driverâ??s door, a shallow quarter-sized dent on the convertible top cover, several bubbles between the grille and passenger-side headlight, and surface corrosion to lips of wheel arches. This Fahrzeug-Daten (Vehicle Data) card provides information on how this 280SL was equipped. 6. Serial Nr. â?? matches original invoice above7. All gauges and lights are functioning except for the dash light rheostat, which works poorly. The 87k miles shown on the 5-digit odometer are believed accurate, and the working clock has been cleaned/lubricated. Although working, the Becker Europa radio currently puts out low volume. No A/C is fitted, and heater updates include new control levers, lubed cables, and new bulbs. The driverâ??s window operates but rattles. Noted issues include small fluid seeps from the head gasket/oil pan area and transmission, two small rust holes to intermediate exhaust pipes, and general flaws to exterior paint.
