Description

2L twin-cam inline-six. All components and systems were checked, and the rear subframe was removed and rebuilt. The British Racing Green paint and chrome were cleaned and polished during the refurbishment, and the dented passenger-side door skin was also replaced and painted to match. The convertible top frame was removed and repainted the original shade of gray. A new black canvas top and straps were installed with new gaskets and chrome trim along the forward and rear edges. A tonneau cover is stored in the trunk. The original wheels have been replaced with Series 2 items wearing new Vredestein Sprint Classic tires with fresh tubes. A used spare tire was fitted, and a Series 2 â??no earâ? brass knockoff tool and a hammer will be included. The black leather interior has been modified with a later stereo and speakers installed in the center console. The center armrest wood is cracked at the hinge. Both the dash pad and windshield wiper mechanism were removed to replace the cooling system crossover pipes with new stainless steel items. The 68k miles are not believed accurate. The original fuel system was replaced, including a new fuel tank, sending unit, original-style SU fuel pump, filter, and lines. Two rebuilt Stromberg carburetors from another car of the same year were also installed. Before starting the numbers-matching 4. 2L inline-six, the oil was changed, the ignition and timing were verified, and the cylinders were pre-lubed. An oil leak from the front seal is noted, and the 4-speed transmission has fresh gear oil. The heater core was replaced along with some cooling system hoses, fans, the relay, thermostat, temperature sending unit, and a new brass radiator. Electrical connections were cleaned and treated with silicone dielectric grease, and a new battery was fitted along with new relays as needed. The body plate is provided above, and photos of the corresponding engine stamping (7R8111-9) and body tag (4R5541) are provided in the gallery. The front upper and lower control arms were refurbished with new upper and lower ball joints, outer tie rod ends, shocks, bushings, wheel bearings, and seals. All hydraulic brake and clutch components are either new or were re-sleeved by White Post Restorations in White Post, Virginia, including the front and rear calipers, brake and clutch master cylinders, vacuum booster, and clutch slave cylinder. All rotors, pads, and brake lines are new. The rear subframe was removed, pressure washed, de-scaled, painted black, and fitted with new half-shaft universal joints, wheel bearings and seals, lower control arm bushings, emergency brake pads and brake cable, differential fluid, shock absorbers, and refurbished coil springs. It was reinstalled with new subframe-to-chassis mounts. Photos of many of the new and refurbished parts are shown in the gallery. The old undercoating was scraped off and fresh rubberized undercoating was applied while the rear subframe was out for service. Additional undercarriage photos are provided in the gallery.
