Description

This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was restored by a Mercedes specialist over the past decade and is equipped with a 2. 8L inline-six and 4-speed manual transmission. The body was refinished in its original Metallic Silver Gray, exterior chrome was refinished or replaced, and the factory Pagoda hardtop was refurbished. New carpet, leather seat covers, and door panels were installed, and the original A/C was updated and converted to R134a. The engine and transmission were disassembled and rebuilt during the restoration, and the suspension and brake components were refreshed at the same time. The sale includes almost 30 years of service records and a clean Texas title. A small clearcoat chip is noted, and the original hubcaps were painted to match the body rather than their factory black color. The steel wheels are mounted with Michelin MXV4 tires. A new headliner was fitted at the same time along with new hardtop seals and rack rails. All exterior chrome was either refinished or replaced as needed during the restoration, with one small dent on the hood grille frame present. The black canvas soft top was replaced in 2012. New factory carpet was installed in the interior along with new door and side panels. The factory seats were reupholstered and new seat pads were installed. The dashboard has been recovered with leather. All gauges, instruments, and dashboard lights are reported to be functional, and the odometer shows 89,950 miles. The Becker radio has been matched to a removable custom speaker box with an iPod/iPhone connection. The original Frigiking under-dash air conditioning unit was removed and restored. The compressor was changed to a modern rotary type, and the system was converted to R134a. The 2. 8L inline-six is original and was disassembled, inspected, and detailed during the restoration. A valve job was performed, and a new stainless exhaust and Petronix ignition system were added. The 4-speed manual transmission was overhauled and fitted with new synchronizers, and the drive shaft was rebuilt and balanced. The front end, suspension, and rear axle were restored, and the braking system was fitted with replacement calipers, lines, and hoses. The power steering gear box and power steering pump were rebuilt and restored and new power steering hoses were installed. The floors and wheel wells are original and were prepped with stone guard and repainted with the body. The trunk compartment floor was replaced. The original glove box pouch also comes with the car, as does the factory ignition key, jack, spare tire, and complete tool kit. Filed under: pagoda, sl, w113
